It's relatively new in gaming and wouldn't mind seeing more developers/corporations cash in on the trend. As someone who loved Cuphead's style/gameplay, I'd love to see more developers copy this style. It's a weird level of consumer-entitlement where people were actually offended that another developer was copying their favourite game's art-style/gameplay. They were almost offended by the fact that it was copying Cuphead's direction. While I was browsing this community of threads talking about Enchanted Portals, I was saddened to see how negative people were about Enchanted Portals. There are games in this industry that deserve to be called a ripoff with all the negative connotation, but this is not one of them. In terms of the modern dictionary definition, yes it is a "ripoff," but that's not inherently a bad thing. It strips all the hard work from a work of art, especially when that work of art is actually pretty good on it's own. I don't think it's ever been used with positive connotation. I view the word "ripoff" as a very degrading term.
